Hello, friends and fellow Children’s Librarians! I’ve got a Spring bulletin board idea for you!

Materials used: Just some glue and lots of pretty-colored poster board!
How I made it: This board is inspired by Lois Elhert’s flowery, bright & oh-so-colorful book Planting a Rainbow. I tried my very best to make the flowers look like the flowers as they are painted in the book. The book features collage-style, abstract shapes that make up the mother and daughter’s beautiful rainbow garden, and that’s the style I attempted to emulate here. The first sentence in the book is: “Every year Mom and I plant a rainbow,” so that’s the sentence I featured above the board. I saw this done on this board I spotted on Pinterest, and I like it because I think it draws attention to the fact that it’s inspired by Planting a Rainbow.

Final thoughts: I think I was a little overly ambitious with this one. I originally planned to copy EVERY. SINGLE. FLOWER & PLANT. in the book. Needless to say, that didn’t happen. Even without featuring every single flower, I still think the board is a little too busy, and if I were to do it over again, I’d probably add fewer flowers…though I do appreciate that it looks a little wild just like a garden would. And this bulletin board is guaranteed to brighten up your Children’s Library!
Let me know what some of your favorite Spring picture books are and if you think they’d make a good bulletin board! Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!
