I’m so excited for the Halloween season, and I know I’m not alone! There’s just something so magical and nostalgic about this time of year, and even as I get older, the feeling never gets old.
In my previous post, I recommended some spooky graphic novels that I read and enjoyed, and in this post I’ll be listing some graphic novels I hope to read this fall. Who knows, you might discover a new favorite to add to your reading list too!
Middle Grade

Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen
From the publisher: “Garlic feels as though she’s always doing something wrong. At least with her friend Carrot by her side and the kindly Witch Agnes encouraging her, Garlic is happy to just tend her garden, where it’s nice and safe. But when her village of vegetable folk learns that a bloodthirsty vampire has moved into the nearby castle, they all agree that, in spite of her fear and self-doubt, Garlic is the obvious choice to confront him.”
Young Adult

Lights (Sheets #3) by Brenna Thummler
From the publisher: “Following Brenna Thummler’s bestselling and critically acclaimed graphic novels Sheets and Delicates, Marjorie, Eliza, and Wendell the ghost are back to uncover the secrets of Wendell’s human life in the third and final heartwarming installment of the Sheets trilogy.”

Over My Dead Body by Sweeney Boo
From the publisher: “One day, everything was exactly as it was supposed to be. And the next, the closest thing Abby ever had to a sister, Noreen, was just… gone. Distracted by the annual preparations for the Samhain festival, Abby’s classmates are quick to put Noreen’s disappearance aside. The Coven will find her, Abby’s friends say. (…) But Abby can’t let it go. Soon a search for answers leads her down a rabbit hole that uncovers more secrets than Abby can handle.”

Coven by Jennifer Dugan & Kit Seaton
From the publisher: “Emsy has always lived in sunny California, and she’d much rather spend her days surfing with her friends or hanging out with her girlfriend than honing her powers as a fire elemental. But when members of her family’s coven back east are murdered under mysterious circumstances that can only be the result of powerful witchcraft, her family must suddenly return to dreary upstate New York.”

Hollow by Shannon Watters, Branden Boyer-White, & Berenice Nelle
From the publisher: “From Shannon Watters, the co-creator of the bestselling worldwide phenomenon Lumberjanes, and co-writer debut author Branden Boyer-White, rising star artist Berenice Nelle (Wanderlicht), and colorist Kaitlyn Musto (Specter Inspectors), comes a supernatural queer romance and adventure set in the infamous town of Sleepy Hollow.”

Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome
From the publisher: “Based on the wildly popular webcomic from Tapas, Unfamiliar is an endearing and whimsical story full of magical mayhem, offbeat outsiders, and the power of friendships and found family.”

Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things by Ted Naifeh
From the publisher: “Presenting the initial COURTNEY CRUMRIN miniseries in a new digest-sized format. Courtney’s parents have dragged her out to a high-to-do suburb to live with her creepy Great Uncle Aloysius in his spooky old house. She’s not only the new kid in school, but she also discovers strange things lurking under her bed.”
Adult

Harrow County, Vol. 1: Countless Haints by Cullen Bunn & Tyler Crook
From the publisher: “Emmy always knew that the woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts and monsters. But on the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures–and to the land itself–in a way she never imagined.”

The October Faction, Vol. 1 Steve Niles and Damien Worm
From the publisher: “The October Faction details the adventures of retired monster-hunter Frederick Allan and his family… which include a thrill-killer, a witch, and a warlock. Because sometimes crazy is the glue that binds a family together.”

The Creeps by Fran Krause
From the publisher: “Illustrator, animator, teacher, and comic artist Fran Krause has touched a collective nerve with his wildly popular web comic series–and subsequent New York Times best-selling book–Deep Dark Fears. Here he brings readers more of the creepy, funny, and idiosyncratic fears they love illustrated in comic form.”

The Me You Love in the Dark by Skottie Young & Jorge Corona
From the publisher: “An artist named Ro retreats from the grind of the city to an old house in a small town. She hopes for solace and inspiration, but the muse she finds within is not what she expected.”

Uzumaki by Junji Ito
From the publisher: “Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but by a pattern: uzumaki, the spiral — the hypnotic secret shape of the world. This bizarre masterpiece of horror manga is now available in a single volume. Fall into a whirlpool of terror!”

The Nice House on the Lake by James Tynion IV, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, & Jordie Bellaire
From the publisher: “Everyone who was invited to the house knows Walter—well, they know him a little, anyway. Some met him in childhood; some met him months ago. And Walter’s always been a little…off. But after the hardest year of their lives, nobody was going to turn down Walter’s invitation (…) In The Nice House on the Lake, the overriding anxieties of the 21st century get a terrifying new face—and it might just be the face of the person you once trusted most.”

Wytches by Scott Snyder, Jock, & Matt Hollingsworth
From the publisher: “Everything you thought you knew about witches is wrong. They are much darker, and they are much more horrifying. Wytches takes the mythology of witches to a far creepier, bone-chilling place than readers have dared venture before. When the Rooks family moves to the remote town of Litchfield, NH to escape a haunting trauma, they’re hopeful about starting over. But something evil is waiting for them in the woods just beyond town.”

Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV, Werther Dell’Edera, & Miquel Muerto
From the publisher: “When children begin to go missing in the town of Archer’s Peak, all hope seems lost until a mysterious woman arrives to reveal that terrifying creatures are behind the chaos – and that she alone will destroy them, no matter the cost.”
Be sure to leave your recommendations in the comments. I’m always looking for graphic novels to add to my very long TBR!
Happy Reading, friends! And Happy Fall!
